Overview
A general knowledge of the structure(s) possibly involved and an understanding of the pathophysiology of their dysfunction is required.
Significant decrease in vision without any gross external findings must be due to something obstructing the light from reaching the retina,
- retinal disease
- inflammation
- loss of blood supply
- blockage of the blood flow
out of the eye
- detachment from the underlying retinal pigment epithelium
- disease of the optic nerve anterior to the optic chiasm
- inflammation
- sudden compression
- compromise of blood supply (Slides 1 and 2)
