Membership categories and fees

Only Active members shall have the right to one vote at any business meeting of members. There shall be no voting by proxy or mailed ballot on matters dealt with at annual business meetings or special meetings of members.

All prices are quoted in Canadian funds and include all applicable taxes. No refunds provided.

1. Active Member (AC)

An Active member shall be a physician who has received certification of fellowship in ophthalmology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or who has received a diploma of the American Board of Ophthalmology or their equivalent, or has received certification by the board of the province in which he or she practices, or holds other specialist qualifications in ophthalmology as shall be acceptable to the Board.

FEES: $535; Graduated fee following Royal College certification: Balance of graduating year complimentary, 2nd year - 1/2 fee, 3rd year - $535



2. Associate Member (AS)

An Associate member shall be an individual who holds the degree of Doctor of Medicine and is not a certified ophthalmologist but whose professional standing is acceptable to the Board and is engaged in a field allied with, or in a basic science related to, ophthalmology.

FEES: $214



3. Affiliated Member (AF)

An Affiliated member shall be any person who holds the degree of Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Philosophy or an equivalent degree or professional standing acceptable to the Board, and who is not an ophthalmologist, but is engaged in a field allied with, or in a basic science related to, ophthalmology. The affiliated member may participate in debate at all business meetings, and shall receive all publications of the Society.

4. International Member (AI)

An International member shall be a physician who holds a valid and unrestricted license to practice ophthalmology in a country other than Canada and whose professional standing is acceptable to the Board.

FEES: $400 (Canadian)



5. Life Member (AL)

A life member shall be an active member and have been an active member of the Society for the previous consecutive 25 years and have reached 65 years of age or have retired from practice.

FEES: In practice: $240.75; No longer in practice: complimentary, Annual Meeting registration $70



6. Junior Member (AJ)

A Junior member shall be a physician who is engaged on a full-time basis in an accredited Canadian ophthalmology program or who is actively engaged in a recognized ophthalmology specialist program.

FEES: Complimentary
