When jump-starting the car...

  • Use proper attachments.
  • Keep protective goggles in the car and use them.
  • Ensure the cars are not touching.
  • Do not let jumper cable clamps touch.
  • Never lean over the battery when attaching cables.
  • Attach cables in this order:
    1. attach red cable to positive terminal of dead battery
    2. attach red cable to positive terminal of good battery
    3. attach black cable to negative terminal of good battery
    4. attach black cable to a grounded area on the engine away from the negative terminal of the dead battery. Never attach it to the negative terminal of the dead battery.
